dream home
If you've been around a while, you probably know that we bought a house last fall. It was an amazing, life changing event. Totally by chance, it was more like this house found us.
One day last summer we were over at my Mom's house beating the heat in the pool. At the end of the day, we cruised over the mountain to the new hot grocery store in my Mom's neck of the woods. I can remember it exactly: my Mom was all, "oooh, have you been to Martin's yet?! Oh, it's such a great grocery store, they have hardwood floors and organic health foodie stuff and a kid play area and you can ring your stuff in *at your cart* as you go along..." and so on. Then she remembered that she had a listing right in the area (she's a real estate superwoman) and thought it would be fun for us to see it.
So we head on over, and as we're entering the neighborhood, I'm in the back seat (Matt was in the front) yapping to my Mom that I just melt over mid-century homes, and she tells me to quickly prepare for the meltdown.
As we walked up the steps, I almost thought I shouldn't go in. It was too good. The neighborhood. The yard. The sunny day and all the green grass and trees and landscaping and the huge community garden across the street full of sunflowers and zinnias and vegetables and the HOUSE. The whole thing was so insane. Like, how did we get here? How do we make this place ours? Who do we need to sell our souls to to make this happen?!?!
The house was built in 1960, and it is an absolute stunner. So well loved + cared for. So well designed and planned. Never before on the market, and for some reason, unbeknownst to me, it had been on the market for 3 months with not a single offer. No garage? So what, I say. No central air? I don't care! The place is a dream come true! If we find ourselves really sweating it out in the dog days of summer, um... we'll add central air down the road. If we really don't like our cars being exposed to the elements, well... actually we don't give a rat's patootie about that.
We love it. If it's possible to be in love with a building, then that's it. We're in love. We are still in a total state of shock and it's been six months.
These pictures are from the second time we viewed the house, before we even placed an offer.

and here are a few lived in shots:

Heading into our very first Spring here, it should be a real treat to see what pops up in the yard. We're already seeing some little sneak peeks at flowers and little buds on trees + bushes. Without a doubt, the buzz has not worn off.

oh my lord. it's like you all moved into a living museum. those lamps and that oven are killing me.

Isn't great to live in a modern home. My husband and I had a similar situation in getting our contemporary home...selling our soul and all. Hee, hee, hee...
We love it as well. They are the best houses to live in, keeps the mind clear and thoughts are always good!
Enjoy your new home!

I'm doing a series on vintage (60s/70s) kitchens (trust me, the 70s kitchens totally look like 60s kitchens!) on my blog if you're interested. Every Saturday I'm posting one. You have excellent, really cool, taste! It's the colorful objects that are so delightful!
