in my dreams

spotted my car again yesterday. i first saw it in the parking lot of a shopping center near my house- a handsome, white haired older gentleman was driving, and i was only able to catch a quick glimpse. but it was enough to make me talk to myself in the car and ooh and ahh and squeal and wish and hope and dream. and then yesterday, i was driving out on a rural road, on my way to this fantastic little mennonite-run shop that specializes in bulk + organic foods, meats, cheeses and baked goods (yum) when i realized he was in front of me again. i attempted to take a few (terrible) cell phone pics when at traffic lights, which i will not post here because they don't do the car justice. i followed him for a bit, wishing, hoping that he was on his way to the same store that i was so i could gaze at it dreamingly, for just a minute or two longer... long story short- he turned into a car dealership and i followed him in without ever really having a plan. (i mean, my first thought was, "OMG, he is NOT going to SELL this car HERE, is he?!") it was bitter cold out, little snowflakes were whipping around in the wind, and i hopped out of my car like a kid in a candy store and ran over to him, introducing myself, hoping he didn't find me to be a lunatic, and told him how beautiful i thought his car was. he stood there in his jeans and jean jacket lined in sheepskin, all smiles. he was charmed, and charming and we proceeded to have a lovely little chit-chat about his car. a 1962 white ford falcon s-t-a-t-i-o-n-w-a-g-o-n in gorgeous condition.

i. love. this. car.

i told him that if he ever thought of parting with it, he had a happy buyer in me. he said to me, "sweetie, i don't think it's really worth a whole lot". i told him it was a treasure of all treasures as far as i'm concerned. turns out we live in the same neighborhood, so maybe one day i'll be lucky and he'll offer it for sale?

i got home and quickly googled some images, so as to share with you guys. here is a stunner out of ohio:
(i mean, can you just imagine?!?!?)

life would be pretty damn near perfect, i think, if the hubs and i could pack up the kids in one of these suckers and hit the open road. a full thermos of coffee for matt, some old fashioned sodas on ice, a few homemade rice krispie treats, a camera and some good tunes... i can hear it now- henry and i would sing our duets that we love so much (time's a' waistin' by june + carl and some of those great old april stevens + nino tempo tunes) and we could pull into any ol' random tiny town for a little lunch and thrift shopping. wow. that would be the deal. and now i wake up. ha!

so in the meantime, i'm sitting here at the computer, working on editing images for the shop update.

that's about all the news i got for ya, folks. it's been a really busy week so far, and my poor sweetie (aka, the frecklewonder web guru) hasn't had any time to give to the shop as he has had deadlines and time crunches at work and is getting to the point of zapped. i do not tell you any lies when i say that a) we are working very hard, b) it really is just around the corner, c) i'm totally sorry to be stringing this out, and d) i promise, it'll be worth the wait.

see?

lots of cute things. LOTS.

But honey, the gas mileage! It would surely cancel out some of your other attempts to be good and green.

I'm with you though it is a beauty.

well, i know. it's just a fantasy.
the reality is: i drive a honda civic hybrid. and i love it, love it for it's good green factor and all that, but style-wise, this car suits me perfectly :)

if ever i should be so lucky to have such a dreamy vintage car, it would be for purely around-town purposes. 5 miles here and there kinda thing, you know?

:)

hey freckle, im a c.villian, do you mind telling me the name of your mennonite grocery? i am still fairly new to the area and i love exploring. thanks!

hey wendy-o!
no problem-- it's called The Cheese Shop, located at 2366 Tinkling Spring Rd, Stuarts Draft

just take 64 west to exit 94, left off the exit down Stuarts Draft highway (there's also a fantastic mennonite-run nursery on the way, it's on the left called Millmont, definitely worth a visit) go approx 5 miles (i'm guessing) until you come to the stoplight at Tinkling Spring Rd (you'll see the car dealership on the right where I tracked down my dear car :P)
and The Cheese Shop is about a mile or 2 down the road, on the right! you can't miss it.

enjoy!

thanks so much!

I too am in love with old station wagons. Although I have had one too many old cars in my life and I am over the stink of the engines and the cost of the gasoline. BUT a girl can still dream right?

Are those paint swatches I spy on your desk? I can't wait for you to post pictures of your nesting habits!

I LOVE your shop! I'm so excited for the re-opening! One thing I'd like you to consider- I'm in high school, and would be really sad if the shop opened during school hours. I wouldn't get a fair chance at all the great stuff! I don't when you were planning to open, but I hope you'd keep that in mind! :)

oh jenny. i think you are so lovely. :) i've been lusting after a vintage jeep wagoneer myself, forever! (in teal with the wood siding, and sheep wool seat covers)!!

I live in Lexington & I've been told by so many people to check out The Cheese Shop. Now I have to go!

hey miz melissa :)
i can totally see you in an old station wagon :)
i know what'cha mean- matt and i had a couple old cars too, a buttery yellow dart and a very distressed blue paint 63 valiant with the push button trans. they can be major time suckers if you know how to do the work, and MAJOR money suckers. plus, they aren't exactly good family cars, huh? and YES. good spy- there's a stack of paint swatches there, mostly whites, a couple pinks, i really need to get started on that darn room!!! i promise pics when i do :)

hey faith, cutie! thanks for your sweet note :)
i always struggle with when the best time is to do these big updates, i try to make it easy for those on each coast to access some of the goods, and i will certainly keep in mind the school hours too. we are cranking over here and hope to make the site live tomorrow! stay tuned!

miss sharilyn, it just so happens that i think YOU are lovely, so how about that.
and i love your wood sided wagoneer love! i love those too :) in fact, i saw one for sale recently and my heart did a skip-eroooo. it was really, really purty. :)

tia! if you want, i would be happy to send you some info on other things you could do in the area if you are gonna make the trip up to ze chez shop :) like, thrifting, or antique malls? let me know!
