mixed bag

it's very windy here today, and i keep imagining the roof blowing off as i sit here at the desk printing shipping labels. paypal is acting like a bad child, giving error messages, causing me to log out and log back in, and generally just crawling through my simple tasks. if only i could give paypal a little time on the naughty chair or something.

in other news, i fell last week. being 30 weeks pregnant with that clumsy-ness that seems to occur around this time doesn't really mix well first thing in the morning with icy outdoor steps and trying to walk and talk on the phone simultaneously. not a good combo, i tell you. my maternal wits were with me, however, as it seems my body did everything possible to *not* fall flat on my mid-section, but rather, i landed on both knees, an elbow and my palm, with my butt up in the air. kind of looking a bit like bambi when he is just learning how to walk and all fours are sort of sprawled out all funny. that was me, sort of. but probably not as cute. i got a nice, black bruise on my knee and managed to freak my boys out big time. it was a fairly rattling experience, but i am happy to report that no significant damage was done. my little lady girl in there is a-ok, just had a check up yesterday, in fact. heartbeat is great, movements are great, we're healthy all around.

had a parent-teacher conference last night and wow, she had such nice things to say about my little henry. nothing that i didn't already know, i suppose, but it sure is nice to hear, and i am so proud of him, i could pop. afterwards, we came home and had noodles + ice cream cause, you know, that's how we roll sometimes.

so despite today's arctic winds, i can feel the season changing. we spent a few hours in our back yard on saturday (as it was 60 degrees and impossible to resist), clearing out the beds and getting them all ready for the spring blooms. i noticed buds on trees and little new sprouts coming up from the ground. daffodils and tulips, and lots of other things are on the way. i can't wait.

5 quick things!

1. my feet are way too ticklish to ever be able to indulge in a pedicure.
2. swedish fish are one of my favorite candies ever.
3. i hate uggs, but i secretly wear them as slippers around the house.
4. we are settled on a name for the baby. (i think. at least, i am.)
5. i had cereal for lunch today

fyi- these are peanut butter bumpers, the healthier, organic version of captain crunch. *wink*

I'm glad to hear you are ok after your fall! Scary! Your lunch looks tasty...I'll have to try that kind sometime! Congrats to Henry on such good feedback!

oh i LOVE peanut butter bumpers!!! my favorite!

ME too with the Uggs! Hate to see someone cruising around outside in them, but wear them around the house myself. Love your blog and your fab vintage sensibility. Have my eye on that blue beaded cardigan but need to have one of my freelance clients pay up first . . .

peanut butter bumpers are my favorite cereal of all time...so much so that i don't allow myself to buy them. i snarf them up.

i hate ice as it is slippery. glad that you're alright!

bring on the spring weather...

OMG! Falling on ice is the worst and even scarier since you are preggers.

I love eating cereal for dinner. My fave: Trader Joe's Banana Nut Crunch! Or banana's sliced on the bottom of the bowl and cheerios.

I hate Uggs too, but I see people in the dead of winter wearing them and I know how warm they must be, I think maybe I should just buy a pair, or maybe a pair of fake ones (but not made in China, because it urks me that everything cheap is made in China).

glad you're a-ok after that fall.

i am shocked and impressed that you even added bananas to your pbb's! i don't even pretend to make them healthy (after my 5th bowl...)

Sweety, just wanted to say hello and say that I really love your blog, everything you write, your photos and most of all... you. And thanks for the wonderful lunch today, not to mention... lunch on every other day. Always very tasty... wonderfully packaged with care and thoughtfulness. You are the best! :)

In case anyone is wondering, my lunch is usually served up in a fancy, black vintage -working mans- Thermos lunchbox. The usual contents include a sweet letter from Jenny, a vintage cloth napkin and some neat old silverware. Today I had spaghetti, fresh grapes, chocolate soy milk, a homemade carrot muffin, 2 mini cheese quesadillas and a handful of Vienna Fingers. Woo! Woo!

xoxoxo,

daddy (a.k.a. your hubbie)

p.s. I'll never let you fall again

awww that was the sweetest comment from your husband!
gotta love that stuff! xoxo

so glad you and the babe are ok after your fall.

I can't wait to know what you are going to name your baby girl. I hope you post it soon. I LOVE your shop! Good old WONDERFUL stuff!

I just wanted to say that your blog is a great source of comfort to me.
Also I read somewhere during my first pregnancy, that even if you fall on your belly, your baby is still in the safest place possible. That made me me happy since I live in Wisconsin where the winter is terrible. I keep thinking of that every time I have to walk outside on that slippery ice holding my two year old, since I'm pregnant again. I'm only 24 weeks pregnant, but I'm huge already, and very wobbly. It is very scary though, and I'm glad you are ok.

Wow, i just looked at your photos from this week, and i totally had the wizard of oz and Pinocchio pop up books when i was a kid!

Ahhhh poor you, but glad to hear you weren't hurt. Can't wait to find out little miss freckle's name, tee hee.
Such a sweet post by your Mr. too.
love Alison x
