the wind is howwwwwlin' out there today! crazy weather for us this week- it started off spring-like, with temps in the upper 50s and gorgeous sun. followed by flurries and super cold temps. now they're talking about more snow. and i'm telling you- the 30 inches that we got right before christmas just melted away. i don't think i can handle more snow!!! even if it is winter! i'm ready for spring!
the reality is, we've got several more weeks to go, so i'm not getting my hopes up too much.
is it super cold + windy where you are today?
i've added a few more snuggly sweaters to the etsy shop. and will be updating more throughout the day when i can... more pretty 50s + 60s party dresses and next week- a few handmade things that i will be working on finishing up over the weekend! so stay tuned.
i love it when even just 'popping in' to one of my regular spots turns out some excellent finds. dotty and i made a trip to one of my favorite smaller shops this morning- one that happens to be sans carts. as we were getting out of the car, i realized that i forgot the stroller at home- ruh-roh! but was this going to stop me? ummmm, no! it just meant that we needed to be quick about it- get in and get out with a few treasures in our pockets. as you may or may not know from personal experience, a 20 month on the floor of a small, slightly packed thrift store is kind of a scary thing. i did spend most of my time reeling her back in- she was fascinated by *everything* and wanted to touch *everything* and hug every valentines bear, buddy and baby in sight.
but lookie! what treasures! well worth it. even if you have 10 minutes to spare- whether you've got a toddler in tow or not- a quick 'pop-in' to one of your local thrifts is sure to reward you in some way!
as an aside- i notice a lot that i end up finding things/putting things in my cart that are in a similar color story. without really meaning to do so- i end up coming home with things that sort of "match". today it was lots of pinks and oranges. sometimes i end up with greens or all greys. does this ever happen to you?
hey folks! just a quick note to let you know i'm updating the etsy shop today- some things that you see here are already in the shop, and the rest are on their way. i chose a handful of *fancier* pieces to share, since valentines day is fast approaching... perhaps you are looking for a little something special to wear on a date with your sweetie? if so, have a little peek!
i'm busy adding new things each day so do check in regularly if you're so inclined!
i am a huge fan of these amazing creatures made by tania of super ninon. originally from italy, tania now lives in berlin. she began sewing clothing for herself and her friends and drawing lots of little monsters. so naturally, she decided to combine her love for them both and her project "les monstrìs" was born, in 2004.
i discovered her on flickr a long time ago, and have been secretly loving each and every one of these little guys. did you know that each little monster is one of a kind?! i have a serious appreciation, not only for her creative design, but also for her ability to execute- especially after my own failed attempt at making some little dolls over the holidays for dotty and her bff pia. they were super cute in my head, but when i got them put together, they were super wonky. and not so much cute. so kudos to tania for such amazing work!!!
it was a tough choice to narrow it down to this group- they're all so special, and have so much personality, don't you think?!

one things that's always on my Lookout List: these colorful wooden wall hangings from el salvador. i absolutely *love* them. all of them hang in dotty's room, with the exception of that fantastic key holder which conveniently hangs at the front door.
a quick search on ebay, and on etsy only turned up two results- which makes me wonder if these are harder to come across than i thought? usually they are dirt cheap, i don't think i've ever paid more than 2 dollars per piece. but to me, they're worth much more than that. so sunny and colorful, they always make me smile.
what's on your regular Lookout List? any items you collect that you're constantly looking for? i'd love to know! maybe we can help each other out!
how was your weekend? tons of rain and wind for us- and today the sky just can't decide. it's all moody with dark clouds one minute, and the next minute, the sun is shining in a bright blue patch. somewhere out there, there just must be a rainbow. there were huge flocks (we're talking, like, hundreds?) of robins in our yard over the weekend too. and i thought that robins were supposed to be one of those early signs of spring, although it seems way too early for that. and i won't be fooled- it's still january.
henry had his best friend over on saturday night for his very first, real-deal sleep over. he's spent the night over at my mom's plenty of times, and had sleep overs with cousins- but having a best friend from school? that's different. he was so excited all morning, we were having practice with quick math every time he'd look at the clock, announce what time it was, and then ask me HOW LONG TILL BEN COMES OVER? and it was one of those- oh, i don't know, 5 minutes sooner than the last time you asked me- kind of things. i finally called ben's mom and said - you know, if you guys are ready, come on over, because henry is about to wear a path in the hallway from all the pacing and peering out the window he's doing. and sure enough, same thing at her house. figured we'd better not make those boys wait one minute longer. luckily, they live right around the corner, but i kid you not, henry was out in the driveway waiting. and that 5 minutes that it took them to get here? absolute TORTURE.
do you remember sleep overs and how much fun they were? i think i might surprise matty some time and set up camp just like this for the two of us to have a little movie night in the living room. popcorn and ice cream and everything. yes.
