(as an aside, there was some bottling of home brewed beer happening in the back ground. hence the clinking and clanking)
happy monday, peeps! did you guys have a nice weekend? still and icebox here for us, but we had a nice time and managed to spend a bit of it outdoors. fresh air is always nice, right?
so a bit of shop news: matt and i have been making some tweaks and changes over on the main shop (which is currently closed) and also with the blog (hope to launch a brand spanking new on soon) but! in the meantime, and maybe as a new regular thing, i have added a whole bunch of things to the FRECKLEWONDER ETSY SHOP.
such as this little beauty:
usually, things come and go, move through my hands to yours without much problem. i love all the things i find, don't get me wrong- but i guess since i do this full-time, i've gotten pretty good at not getting attached. but this dress? this dress has it in for me. i'm having a little love affair, and i'm just hoping that she goes quickly and to a happy new home before i come to my senses. you know?
found this kind of amusing. and well, i have to. because the alternative is that i go crazy.
cooking dinner. had to clear the kitchen table. why the kitchen table? oh, cause the dining room table is also covered with a bunch of stuff. two bins of christmas ornaments that i'm not finished packing up, plus a few other random things including but not limited to: some packaging supplies for orders i shipped out today, my camera, a scarf, and puzzle that's 75% done yeah, no kidding. the puzzle is underneath it all. because who moves a puzzle that's 75% done? not us.
so to clear the kitchen table i had to remove:
one pair of sewing scissors, a roll of tape, two sharpies and a pack of thank you cards. a vintage men's western shirt and pair of gingham curtains i picked up at goodwill last night. one national geographic kids magazine and a flip bracelet that henry's teacher made for christmas. two tea towels that are currently in rotation. the dog's leash. a pile of paperback books that i just pulled from the kitchen bookshelf. a hubcap. i repeat: a hubcap.
please tell me this is normal?
please tell me i'm not on the fast track to appearing on an episode of hoarders.
well yesterday, shortly after henry got home from school, the three of us were having an afternoon snack/dance session in the living room. and i turned around and saw the UPS truck and thought- what could that be? i think everything i ordered from amazon arrived in time for christmas! but we never heard the bell ring (and he *always* rings the bell) and since it is currently and ice box outside, i didn't think i needed to further explore.
cut to this morning, when matty went outside to warm up the car. he came back in with a box! A BOX! and i thought- oh! it must be those charley harper coloring books i ordered that have been on back order. ok. and when i opened it, what did i find?! not the charley harper coloring books but A COPY OF MAD HUNGRY. my sweet friend tracy had sent it to me as a gift!!! that turkey! i have totally been meaning to pick up a copy, cause she has raved about it. and she knew that i had a copy in my hand when i was doing some last minute holiday shopping, but i put it back on the shelf cause my thrifty butt had seen it on amazon for less than the cover price so i thought i'd just wait and order it online. and then i told her how the other night, i cooked THESE AMAZING FRIES and nearly died from deliciousness. and what does she do? she orders me the book!!!
the recipe for those fries (along with so many other drool worthy dishes) can be found in MAD HUNGRY.
i quickly snapped a pic of matt's plate before he dug in. not the best lighting, not the best picture- but who's got time for pictures when you're holding a plate full of hot, crispy, cheesy fries, a tilapia fillet and greens? not me.
tracy, girl! you are too good to me. THANK YOU so much. you made my day!!! i am really excited to ask the question, "what are we having for dinner tonight?!" and head right to that book for the answer.
i have been thinking about a family dog for a while now, and i had this vision of matt having this man's best friend kind of dog. one that he would take everywhere with him. one that would go to the office and lay on a bed and force matt to get away from the computer a few times a day. one that would be awesome on hikes and outdoorsy kind of things. one that would be great with the kids and bark loudly if there was someone prowling around. you know what i mean? a DOG dog. and i had looked at everything from irish setters and german shorthairs to weimaraners and vizslas.
and yet somehow, we ended up with the complete opposite.
i convinced matt to take a trip to the spca with me a few days before christmas. i had looked at a few of their dogs online and so when we got there, i asked to see them first. they were bigger dogs. the smallest of which was a medium sized gal named JENNY, who was jack russell/rat terrier mix. super cute. and she was freckled! thought maybe this was the dog for us, and i really loved her. but matt said she was giving him an anxiety attack. and poor jenny? well she made things official when she didn't pass the cat test. walked her into the cat room and she kinda turned ugly. so we took her out for a walk, wished her the best of luck and moved on.
the next dog was rudy. he peed on matt's shoe within the first minute or two, and he was just kind of a little bit too much energy. big energy. he had us re-thinking the big dog thing. matt was kind of cracking me up because i could almost SEE his blood pressure rise. and as we sat in the visiting room with rudy, matt sort of said to me, "babe. i feel like i just don't really have room in my life for more energy. these dogs, they're kind of tweaking my nerves. i need calm. "
so we had one last visit. with BUDDY. this wee chihuahua/miniature pinscher mix in a blue sweater came in. and pretty much i melted into a squealing puddle of love right then and there. but i knew matt would *never* go for a small dog, so i held my excitement. and whaddya know, matt kinda loved him right away. this BUDDY, he was waaaaaay calm. just like, cheeeeeel, baby cheel. and as he was sitting in matt's lap, working his puppy dog eyes to the max, matt said to me, "i like this guy. he's peacing me out. i think he's the one".
well knock me over with a feather, i was s-t-u-n-n-e-d.
and the rest is history! little buddy, whose tentatively being called lucky (henry's pick after about 3 weeks (!!!) of not really having an official name in our house) is one cool little dude. he lives for snuggles. that's pretty much his main event. he likes to play too, and is good for getting our fat cats up off their behinds and burning a couple calories. and he's figured out that dotty is great to hang around cause he can always score a snack or couple of crumbs of anything that she drops along her way. and he rascals around with henry and serves as my own personal heater at night. it's a win, win, win and really? we're all feeling pretty lucky.
first, we have sandra in this amazing red cashmere coat. doesn't she look so great!! i love how she styled it. proof that even the chilliest temps don't have to get us down. go, sandra. girl if you didn't get a zillion compliments when you were out and about, then my name ain't frecklewonder. :P
next up, miss jeanee in her pretty wool tulip pocket coat. girrrrl, you look fierce! sounds like there was a bit of a debate between jeanee + her hubby on whether or not to change the buttons. what do you guys think? i say keep 'em- that coat looks per-fect-o on her!
next up, miss jenny. jenny has been a huge supporter of frecklewonder for a long time now, i wonder what it would be like to take a peep in her closet? probably more than a few pieces i'd recognize, right jenny? so here she is- she bought not one, but TWO coats, and jenny tells me that she and her friend had so much fun, doing a fashion shoot in vegas while on holiday visiting family. I LOVE THAT! just look at her, if she's not happy, i don't know what is.
finally we have the super sweet, super adorable lauren in her 60s bubblegum pink wook dress that she bought to wear on christmas day!!!!!!!! that brings a happy tear to my eye, seriously. she looks so cute, and look - even her pup can't resist giving a big smooch cause lauren is just cute, cute, cute!
thank you all so much for sending me these shots. it makes my day when an email with an attachment comes in. and thanks again so much for your orders- i am really happy and lucky to do what i do, and it's great to have such amazing customers and supporters who dig it the same. a big hug goes out to each of you.
and now, for my gentle reminder to any others who might be considering sending me a picture... nudge, nudge- can ya feel that? please remember to make the image at least 500 pixels wide, but of course, the bigger the better. if you have a blog or shop you'd like me to link, by all means, send me that info too.
thanks so much!!!
