hooray for daylight savings time

i think it was that extra burst of sunlight that gave me the energy this weekend to belly up to the ol' pfaff and sew the day away! more handmade totes on the way this week...

*EEK. i seem to be having a technical difficulty with the free shipping on handmade items deal. if you should purchase a tote before i have a chance to get this fixed (likely this evening, when my "web guy" gets home from work) i will refund you the shipping charges and include a little extra something special in your package for the trouble. darn technical issues, ugh!

spring in your step

something i really don't have much of these days. perhaps something more along the lines of thick chocolate ganache might describe my step. i feel like i've been hit by a truck. or train? oh, wait. i'm pregnant!!! and feeling huge.

getting rest and getting comfortable seems next to impossible these days, and i think it's safe to say i've hit that stage of the game where i'm just sorta... over it. those of you who have done this before, and given the long 9 months of your life to growing a person know the kind of emotional tiredness to which i refer.

it goes without saying, but i'll say it anyway- of course this in no way means that i'm not excited or thankful, or happy. it's just that i'd love to not feel like i am waddling, and it'd be great to wear a cute dress again. and i love that little baby girl in there more than i even know, and i'd go through all of this again without question. i'm just tired and tired of moving like a slug. patience is something i am not always great with. patience with surprises, especially.

boy, do i sound cheery today, or what? how about i turn over a new leaf now- one of a springy, colorful, shop update kind?!

I have been a busy lady, getting everything prepped and out the door. By now, most of you have received notification from USPS that your order has shipped, and if not, you will shortly. these boxes take a while to prepare, i always put a little extra lovin' in them, and then there's logging onto paypal and crawling through their system to get shipping labels printed. takes me all dang day long. while i sit and print labels, i try to listen to some good tunes, have a nice little snack or cup of tea and imagine that i'm combing the racks in the thrift store instead of being chained to the desk. it's safe to say that this is not my favorite part of this whole process, but i do get excited about packaging up your orders as special as i can, and imagine what it might be like to get a fun package in the mail.

i hope your order brings a smile to your face! all month, in honor of valentines day, i will be including these fun vintage romance novels with your orders (while my supplies last- i do have a pretty huge collection of these though)

brighter day

goodmorning, friends. did you notice the new banner today? did you know that it means that the shop is now open?! after a long day and very late night (i won't even tell you how late we stayed up, it was like the old days of frecklewonder, poor matt was stuck in the paypal sandbox testing the shopping cart for like, 2 hours, whadda nightmare).

i had been calling this shop update the "january update" and boy, did we make it in by the skin of our teeth! it's january 31st today. wow. it never ceases to amaze me how much work, brain bending, and time it takes for two regular ol' folks to build a web shop. one that's user friendly and pretty, where it's images line up and don't break, and where links take you to the correct place and quantities are updated correctly when an item is sold, and so,so many other things. none of this would be remotely possible without the brains behind what you see, and that's matt. a HUGE thanks to you, matt, for all the long hours that you work, and for busting out your amazing skills yet again. i love you to the moon and back a million zillion times infinity.

there are a couple things we are still working on, one of which being that when an item is sold, it will switch from the products name to actually say 'sold' as it has in the past (on the thumbnail shop pages)-- i know that before long, you guys will be driven crazy as you are attempting to cruise around and shop, only to find out that things are selling at a pretty fast clip. this will be fixed asap (for now, i am manually updating these items as they sell, which requires a bit of babysitting of the site, and eventually i will have to get up from this seat- but i am keeping a close eye and making these changes as best as i can). also, i am working on building the friends page, which is currently displaying nothing and making it look like i don't have any!!! those are the two main things i can think of at the moment. the good news is that there's an absolute TON of stuff. this is the first time that i have used a dress form to model all the stuff-- i hope that you guys find that the descriptions and pictures are plenty for you to get an item figured out. as always, if you see something and you have additional questions, give me a shout.

and on a different note, thank you so much to those of you who sent such nice, heartfelt comments to tuesday's post. we're all hanging in there, and it's really nice to know that you guys are sending good vibes, thoughts and prayers our way. i appreciate it more than you could know.

close but no cigar

well, crap.

no shop yet. but it's certainly not for lack of effort. we ran into a few technical snags yesterday, and truth be told, i completely underestimated the amount of time it takes to prepare so many items. this is, hands down, the largest shop update frecklewonder has ever seen. and i guess after several months of being away, i'm a little out of practice? anyhow, if i kept going with product photos, i could probably have 300 items in the shop. in order to not completely overwhelm myself right outta the gates, i am going to start with about half that. so that's good news right?! 150 or so fun vintage pieces!

anyhow, folks. i sincerely apologize. and believe me, no one is more bummed than myself and my sweetie.
after an entire weekend of work, we had really hoped to start the week off with a bang, and not with this silly blog post about why not, and blah blah blah. anyhow, it was a late night. followed by an early morning. the sun is barely up and i have to go prepare lunches for the day.

homestretch

brr, is it cold out there tonight!

as promised, i am here with an update on our progress with the big shop reopening. we are still on track for tomorrow, so barring any major catastrophes, you should be able to view the goods tomorrow. i can't promise that it'll be early in the day, but we are pulling for sometime tomorrow. (aye! i shudder to actually type that, but i am in good spirits here, feeling confident, and definitely excited.)

whole lotta stuff goin on

hello friends.
there are currently over 45 pairs of shoes laid out on my living room floor, getting their photos + measurements taken. all will be in the shop, which will very likely open this weekend. i hate to nail myself down to a specific day or time, as i have learned from many past shop updates that things always come up, little bugs need to be worked out, technical difficulties can make a person want to pull their own eyes out when a deadline must be broken.  BUT, matt and i feel pretty darn confident about it being finished and ready for this weekend, as we are both wrapping up some last minute details. when we are ready to pull the trigger, i will give a little head's up in the blog, so that you guys can avoid sitting around and refreshing the page, as many people have told me they will be doing. of course that is the last thing i want- i don't want you all glued to your desks, waiting and wondering, with your little hearts pitter-pattering for a certain vintage piece- i want you to be out and about, doing your thing. just check in with the blog at some point tomorrow and i will let you know what the status is for a sunday launch, k?

i'm a little late in the day to wish you a happy friday, but what the heck, HAPPY FRIDAY. hope ya'll have a great weekend. today was nice, about 50 degrees, so we experienced quite the meltdown from yesterday's snow. good thing henry got a nice chance to play in it yesterday, cause it's pretty much all gone today.

you might have noticed (if you have visited the shop page in the last day or so) that there is a new temp page up with the promise of the shop being open real soon. that's my plan for the weekend: to finalize all the stuff that needs finalizing-- write the descriptions for everything, do all the measurements for the clothing, and stuff like that. i am bound and determined to get the shop reopened ASAP! send a little good ju-ju my way, please? i need all the ju-ju i can get.

so matt's coming home with pizza (hooray for not having to cook and clean, i think i'll just whip up a salad and we'll call it a meal) and we are having family movie night tonight. not quite sure what we are watching yet, but if you know me, you know i'll be asleep before the halfway point. xox!

oh the suspense

lovely ladies. i am so, so sorry to have kept you waiting all day! i have been beyond busy today, and i am sorry to say that i am behind schedule with this update due to some very uncooperative times over the weekend! we literally had rain + thunderstorms all day and into the night on saturday, which made it impossible to get photos done, even indoors cause the lighting was crap. (we even lost power briefly a couple of times)

i am working furiously to get some items added right now!!! it will not be the massive update that i had planned for today, but i am managing to at least get somewhere around 20 items added today and i will pick right back up with it tomorrow. i kid you not- i have gotten some anxious emails from you guys, some of whom said that they were afraid to leave the desk for lunch!!!! and others telling me that you are hitting the refresh button and are "locked and loaded" and ready to snatch up some stuff. girls- you are too much. i am so happy that you look forward to these updates, but it makes me feel so terrible that you have been waiting all day like this!!! how's about i set a time for this batch of 20ish items to go live. would that be helpful? i have to leave right now (5pm EST) to pick up the husband from work, and i will likely be home around 7. how about this stuff goes live at 10:30 my time tonight? that's 7:30 for you west coasters. hopefully you will be home from work and finished with dinner by then, and hopefully 10:30 isn't to late for my east coast girls.

i promise you -- there is much MUCH more to come, so please do not fret.

hey kids. the shop update is in full effect. i am a little over half done, and i'm going to take the rest of the afternoon away from ze computer. i woke up with a may-jah headache this morning that just doesn't want to relent. plus, it's the first beautiful (read: not oppressively hot) day in a while, so i am going to head outdoors with mister henry for a bike ride around the 'hood. i think i've got 25 new items up, and as i said, i have more coming! if you have any questions about anything, i will be checking in, but i'm just not going to be camped out at the desk for the next little bit :)

i'm hard at work over here getting a new round of goods ready for the shop. i've got some great pre-fall vintage stuff: cute shoes, totes, a few lightweight jackets and dresses + funky tops galore. also, there will be a new batch of handmade totes and necklaces for those of you who prefer that sort of stuff.

i really want to thank all of you who have ever placed an order. i am especially grateful to you repeat customers, many of whom have become some good online buddies. i love you all! and hope that you are diggin' your frecklewonder goodies. a long time ago i used to have a customer gallery on the site. i was thinking about that last night, and wondered if any of you might be into sending me a snap of you in something you've purchased from the shop! come on, don't be shy!! a head-to-toe picture would be super, super awesome.

in other news, i am tired today. just beat. we have had about 4 days in a row of the most oppressive, disgusting heat. it is the official dog days of summer here, folks. upper 90s, very humid, feels like 110, supposedly. i ain't goin' outside today, so i couldn't really tell you first hand. i am hiding out in the ac, just trying to keep from falling asleep. heh! 

i also wanted to thank those of you who have made a donation to the bottom of the hudson fund. i suspect that $5 is probably a morning coffee + scone purchase for a lot of us, and $5 might seem like a drop in the bucket when we're talking about medical bills. but, i believe that it will help and that a lot of little donations add up to something big and truly helpful. thanks to those of you who sent me a private message letting me know that you donated. it means a whole lot.

frecklewonder at fred flare!

remember a while ago, i was hinting at a fun surprise that i was so excited about working on? well, the day has arrived, folks. my pals keith and chris, of the fabulously fun shop FRED FLARE, asked me a few weeks ago to do some vintage buying for them, and of course, who am i to say no to such a request?! it was "totes" so much fun (as the fred flare peeps would say) and i'm very happy to send you over there to check 'em out.

get your hands on 'em quick, ok? there are only twenty and they seem to be moving out pretty quick-like. super thanks and a shout out to keith + chris! thanks so much for asking me to do this. i'm sending the love right back at'chas!!!!!!!

on a slightly different, yet slightly related note, i had an email today that read: cute stuff! but why is everything SOLD? and, why is it all so small? valid questions, if you're new to the site, so i thought in addition to the personal reply i sent to the inquirer, i'd post some info here too. you see, for the most part, i'm the only one behind this site. my hubby, matt, lends a technical hand every once in a while, when we make changes to the design of the site, for example. but i handle all the buying and making, and everything that goes into making it available to you guys. from the modeling of the vintage stuff, measuring it, packaging + shipping it, to the emailing with you fine folks, and all the other behind-the-scene stuff that goes into running a busy web shop, you could guess that it'd be my dream to have a team of buyers and a handful of lovely models to help me out! unfortch, i don't. so it's just me doing the best i can at the most i can handle.

good news though: i'm chipping away at another big shop update, and will keep you guys posted on it's progress. i try to do big updates about every 4-6 weeks, depending on how lucky i am in finding a new stock of vintage, and how much time i have to sit down at the table and make things. as far as the sizing issue goes: i truly make an effort to offer a range of sizes, and most times, you can find anywhere from size 2 to 12 in the shop, but again, it's really anyone's guess what i'll find out there in the land of thrift shops, yard sales, estate sales, etc. if you ever have any special requests, you can always feel free to shoot me an email and i'll see what i can do to help! so head on over to fred flare and snag up an awesome vintage dress for summer. and check back with me soon (sign up to the mailing list!) for a fully stocked shop! lots of love, jenny
