this baby girl loves flowers. in fact, her first real word (aside from mama and dada) was flower. i'm not kidding! she says, "bwahh bwahh" every time she spots one. recently, she's picked up on the idea of smelling them, which is accompanied by the cutest little sniffy face i ever did see.
one day last week, i was wearing a vintage dress with a 60s enamel flower brooch, and i went in to pick her up from her bed after a nap- and her eyes went right to my brooch. suddenly she was pointing and excitedly saying "bwahh bwahh! bwahh bwahh!!" and when i picked her up, she leaned her head down to my shoulder and began to sniff. if that doesn't make you melt, i don't know what will. nevermind that an enamel brooch has no scent, or the flowers in a book don't smell at all either, flowers seem to be the first thing she notices these days.
over the weekend, i took her out into the back yard, which is bursting with color right now, and as we were walking over to the garden, i said, "dotty! get your sniffers ready!" and hoo boy, did she ever! she was just sniff sniffin' with every step.
i just love this age. for me, this is when the fun really begins.
:::
a new flickr set, to document this love of flowers can be found here and i am sure i will be adding many more pictures of dotty and her flowers.
"flower" was my first word too! And to this day, I will still stop and smell each live flower I see! Although, I have slowly learned that artificial, flower-shaped things will probably disappoint in the smell department...and you can only get away with stopping to smell them anyway when you're as little and cute as Miss Dot!

oh, how funny, we were just saying to Iris today (who also loves flowers, she knows the names of quite a few now and has always liked to get her nose in there), that she used to say flah-laa, so sweet.

oh. my. gosh. so sweet! that face! and such a love of flowers! i have that feeling of being reminded to love the simple things because a child is having so much fun discovering them.

i know, the bloomers are pretty ridiculous.
we have a drawer full of super cute ones that i've been putting her in since the early days of spring.
i kinda wanna wear little smocks and bloomers myself!!!

so lovely to have you back! Dottie totally brightened up a boring afternoon at work with that scrunched up, serious sniffing little face!

The expressions! Seriously, I'm a puddle.
For Moira it is animals - "dog" was her first word other than mama and dada. When we see a dog or a cat when we are walking she practically turns inside out trying to get to it.

I absolutely love this series of photos. Her sniffing face is absolutely beautiful & much like my own big girl's laughing face when she was around the same age. Just beautiful Jenny.
