i love it when even just 'popping in' to one of my regular spots turns out some excellent finds. dotty and i made a trip to one of my favorite smaller shops this morning- one that happens to be sans carts. as we were getting out of the car, i realized that i forgot the stroller at home- ruh-roh! but was this going to stop me? ummmm, no! it just meant that we needed to be quick about it- get in and get out with a few treasures in our pockets. as you may or may not know from personal experience, a 20 month on the floor of a small, slightly packed thrift store is kind of a scary thing. i did spend most of my time reeling her back in- she was fascinated by *everything* and wanted to touch *everything* and hug every valentines bear, buddy and baby in sight.
but lookie! what treasures! well worth it. even if you have 10 minutes to spare- whether you've got a toddler in tow or not- a quick 'pop-in' to one of your local thrifts is sure to reward you in some way!
as an aside- i notice a lot that i end up finding things/putting things in my cart that are in a similar color story. without really meaning to do so- i end up coming home with things that sort of "match". today it was lots of pinks and oranges. sometimes i end up with greens or all greys. does this ever happen to you?
it happens to me all the time! and i only realize it once im at the cash register: all my items are of the same palette. classic!
you found amazing stuff today, that little owl (bank?) is so cute!

isn't that funny! i love how it just sort of *happens* that way... i never go looking for anything in a specific color family, that's for sure... there are certain items that i collect that i'm always on the hunt for- but not just cause they're pink or red or green!
i like the way everything looks though, when it's all in a similar color story. like it's meant to be together or something!!
and yes, the little owl is a bank!

If you find a film that works, I'd love to know what and where to find it. I have one of those pretty cameras too and have no idea where to start searching.
Also, LOVE the pink owl.

I found your blog from a weird chain of Flickrs, but oddly enough I live out in Fork Union. Anyways, I have to ask what thrift stores you get these adorable finds. I guess I might not be looking hard enough, but I've only find two places in C'ville and they don't have anything nearly this cute.

well if there is anyone who's got the insider tips and connections, i would imagine you 'da one! girl! if this camera doesn't even work, i still love it for that pretty rainbow stripe down the middle :)
i just did a quick search for film... is only vintage stuff available? i thought polaroid was putting out new stuff?? i cannot be getting into bidding wars over film now!

fork union! how funny! glad you found me.
so basically- i hit up tons of spots in the charlottesville/harrisonburg/ruckersville/waynesboro/staunton/stuarts draft vicinity. i don't know if i have any real secret spots- mostly i just go A WHOLE LOT. about 5 days a week... that's probably why i have such good luck?
charlottesville has a couple goodwills that are ok- i actually think they are a little bit on the overpicked side and messy. but that doesn't mean i haven't found some gems! of course there are loads of non-thrift but more vintage shop places too... if you just WANT something great and don't have the time + energy to put into the hunt... antics which is downtown, and gladrags would be two places that i'd highly recommend for a SURE SPOT to find something super cute- gladrags is all clothing + Accessories, antics has LOADS of clothing but also tons and tons of housewares...
happy thrifting!

I love a good "pop in" ! That's a cute way to phrase it-my husband would just call it obsessive compulsive shopping! I snuck in a Goodwill run tonight while I was supposed to be out paying for my bridesmaid dress...
